This document refers to integrations that are done between a Dendi LIS lab and a reference lab. Sendout integrations are traditionally via HL7 integrations, however, Dendi LIS can also support API Integration with vendor systems. It will require some setup by both the sending and receiving lab systems.
Sendout integrations are usually bidirectional. This means that orders from Dendi are sent out to the relevant party and results from vendor LIS are received into Dendi LIS.
In order to set up an integration, or update an existing integration with another LIS customer, please contact support@dendisoftware.com and integrations@dendisoftware.com
Sendout Lab Workflow
Sendout lab refers to the lab that is receiving the samples and orders from the Dendi LIS. Most of the integration setup is done from the sendout / reference lab’s perspective. It is up to the sendout lab to make sure that connectivity and all compendium items [including test profile names, test codes, and clinical questions] are shared and maintained with Dendi.
The ordering workflows must be implemented and followed in both directions.
Sample compendium format can be found here - Dendi LIS Compendium Format - Template . Dendi can upload the mapped compendium [shared by the sendout lab team], which will populate all relevant Test profiles and associated Test details.
Reference Labs Setup
The Dendi team will coordinate with the sendout lab team to ensure the Reference lab list is populated with the sendout lab details, including name, address, phone number and CLIA details.
Test Profile Setup
The Dendi team will coordinate with the sendout lab team to ensure Test Profile, Test names and Test codes [Alternate IDs] are mapped in both systems to ensure that there are no test naming and test code conflicts.
Before the sendout lab can receive samples and orders from the sending lab, the correct Test Profiles and Alternate ID from the sendout lab must be set up and linked together in Dendi LIS.
The Test Profile linkage is tested by Dendi support and the Sendout lab, and any new Test Profiles that are used for electronic ordering must be approved by Dendi before they are made available to order.
The following details must be entered for Test profiles:
- Name
- Reference Labs [only 1 lab can be listed, per test profile]
- Alternate ID
- Tests
- Acceptable Sample Types
Note: Test profile names can start with a prefix [# or the Sendout lab Initials] to make them easier to identify. Example: “AEL - Basic Metabolic panel”
Test Setup
Tests that are linked to Test Profiles, can be “copied” over from the sendout lab’s compendium.
The following details must be entered for Tests:
- Method - ‘Sendout’
- Analyte or Target - ‘Miscellaneous Sendout’
- Report Templates - ‘Generic’
- Test Name
- Alternate ID
- LOINC code [optional]
Tests can be added or updated manually to Test profiles, by updating the Test profile:
Ordering Process
Note: it is imperative that the Test Profiles,Tests and Clinical questions be curated carefully and all changes communicated to both Dendi and the Sendout partner lab. For example, neither lab should change the name and Alternate ID of any Test Profiles and Tests, meant for electronic orders and results.
If the Test Profiles and tests are set up correctly, the Test Profiles/tests will also show up correctly during the order creation. To any outside observer, the test menu will be exactly the same as if all tests are done in-house. In addition, the ordering process will also remain exactly the same.
Sendout Batches
Note: for each electronic orders batch, the orders must be re-processed for the Sendout lab, so that the lab receives the orders via the interface.
Once an order has been created at the sendout lab using the reference Test Profile, the sending lab will be able to see the relevant orders in the Sendouts section.
You can access this page by clicking/expanding “Reference Testing” in the navigation menu on the left-hand side, then selecting “Sendouts”.
From the Sendouts section, you can select samples to be batched together for another lab. You can filter by fields such as Code, Accession number, Account & Test Profile.
After selecting samples to be batched together, click on the ‘Samples’ button to generate the batch, ‘Specify Billing Responsibility’ and ‘Save’ the batch
Note: Unless the Sendout Batch process is completed and saved, the electronic orders will not be processed for sendout labs.
